Laura Ouimet – We-met Wire Work


Having always dabbled in the arts, Laura founded her art career in 2015. She is an Exhibiting member of the FCA, FCA-Edmonton, SAA, AAB amongst other local art and garden organizations. 

In the last couple years, Laura has shown her art at Painted Door on Main in Beaumont, Ab. in group exhibits, as well as curating her own travelling show around Alberta with her photographer husband and “Partner in HeArt” She has received some recognition for her unique pieces and been nominated for the Anne and Eldon Foote award 2 years in a row, for which she was shortlisted once. Laura has Art in public and private collections in 12 countries, Canada and the US. 

Most recently Laura was commissioned by Multinational seed company, Ball Horticulture in Chicago, Illinois, to create 6 life-size chicken wire gardeners performing varying tasks in their showcase gardens for 2025. These are the first sculptures to ever be displayed in the gardens of this 120 year old business. She has 6 custom sculptures at  the U of A Botanic Gardens in Devon, Ab and the Edmonton Valley Zoo has contracted her for large installations for the Zoominescence Festival of Lights 2 years in a row. Spruce Grove, Whitecourt, Edson and Devon have pieces in their public Art collections. Several prominent politicians also acquired pieces for their private collections. 

With a background in education, one of the most gratifying components of Laura’s art practice is teaching others to create using wire in its many forms. Laura has mentored a number of emerging artists and garners great joy at observing the success they are experiencing in their growing art practices. 

Laura has been a long-time volunteer on the board for an Edmonton non-profit in support of established and emerging artists/artisans. She was instrumental in creating a small bursary to this effect and is involved in a variety of capacities in the central Alberta Art community as a whole.

Ball Gardens, Chicago, Illinois- These 6 full size Human sculptures were commissioned by Ball Horticulture in February 2025 and are installed in their feature Gardens.

4 of the sculptures average 5 ft. tall and two are youth at 3 ft. tall. All are made from galvanized chicken wire with recycled aluminum wire details and enamel paint. All are utilizing actual garden implements.

Elk- This life-size Elk is my depiction of a young Buck. He is 5.5 ft tall and 6 ft. nose to tail. Made with durable galvanized Chicken Wire. He comes mounted on a permanent steel base painted in a rust resistant enamel paint.

Earth Friendly Art- Made with recycled Aluminum wire and recycled sheet metal, these sculptures average approximately 4ft with a 36″ diameter moon.The moon’s pick up/reflect the colors in their environments. The Tree is mounted on a locally sourced piece of driftwood. These pieces of Art are very durable.100% outdoor safe.

The Dancers- This group of Dancers is part of the  Private Art Collection for the 2022 Luminaria Event hosted by the University of Alberta Botanical Gardens in Parkland County, near Devon, Alberta, Canada  These Garden Sculptures are made with 1″ Galvanized Chicken Wire, and the tallest male figure stands at approximately 7 feet tall.

Yubetsu Japan Bonsai-  Commissioned by Whitecourt, Alberta as a sister city twinning gift for the Prefecture of Yubetsu, Japan. Brass wire, driftwood and quartz crystal.
