Whether you are a beginner or advanced in the development of art, a good art community can offer you experiences in new and exciting ways. Here’s why you may NEED to join an art group!
- Learning from others. Fellow artists working together in the creation of art often can offer informal training just by watching and asking questions. Beginner artists learn new techniques, how to apply art elements, and get feedback from experienced artists. They learn about the various tools and equipment that may aid them in their artistic journey. But the learning doesn’t end with beginners. Experienced and advanced artists learn how to talk about their art in a safe and supportive setting so that when they are working with clients, it becomes more natural. They can learn potential teaching skills that may support teaching future art classes. And they learn how to analyze other art beyond their own and offer positive critiques if requested or potentially pick up new ideas for some of their own works. And there may be a tech savvy artist in the group, that can assist with website building or social media platform ideas.
- Motivation and Support. Having a group of artists who understand your work, have seen your progression, and can offer you suggestions is so valuable. It can help in times when you particularly need encouragement and get you over the “block” that sometimes occurs with artists. Immersing yourself amongst art and artists will often generate the positive vibes you need to get you going on your own work and projects.
- Networking. The art world is like so many other professional industries, sometimes knowing someone who knows someone, may be just the right information you need to get you and your art into future opportunities. Groups often garner funding for exhibitions, art shows, and art sales which can help you expand your circle/clientelle.
- Making lasting friends. People with similar interests already have a good start to a friendship as they help each other through their journeys. Sometimes making friends late in life can be difficult, but a shared love for art can be a springboard for a lasting relationship.
If you are looking at some of these many advantages, why not participate in the Wednesday art meetup, hosted by the Artists’ Association of Beaumont (AAB)? It’s free and it’s a great way to explore whatever artistic endeavour you have been wanting to spend some time with, whether it be painting, sketching, knitting or crochet -if you can pack it, bring it! As part of it’s programming, the AAB has rented the Event Room (RM 152) of the Beaumont Sports and Recreation Centre where tables, chairs and a sink is available. Occasionally we schedule specific activities, such as our recent Christmas Centrepiece arranging session! Come join us and regularly (or occasionally, whatever your preference) meet on Wednesdays to enjoy the camaraderie of others in the community who meet to enjoy their time creating, learning, and socializing.
For the month of January – Jan 10 and 31st, we meet at 7 pm to 9 pm. Jan 17 and 24, we meet at 10 am to 12 noon. The schedules are regularly updated on our Facebook/Instagram page and website. If you have any questions about Wednesday Art Meetup, contact the AAB via email, at artistsassociationofbeaumont@gmail.com.
